Shri Ram Katha

Overview

Shri Ram Katha narrates the story of Lord Ram, the seventh incarnation of Lord Vishnu, who serves as an ideal example of righteous living. Through his life, Lord Ram embodies religious virtues and teaches humanity the principles of responsibility and good conduct. This story is primarily chronicled in two revered scriptures:

  1. The Ramayan, composed by the sage Shri Valmiki ji, and
  2. Shri Ram Charit Manas, written poetically in the Avadhi language by Goswami Shri Tulsidas ji to make it accessible to the common people.

These texts present complementary perspectives: while Valmiki ji’s Ramayan portrays Lord Ram as the noblest among men, Tulsidas ji’s Shri Ram Charit Manas reflects an inherent belief in Ram as the Supreme God. Tulsidas’s poetic work also conveys his views on life and religion, blending artistry with profound thought. The language is simple and elegant, demonstrating a love for rhyme and rhythm, making it a highly aesthetic expression of devotion.

In Shri Ram Charit Manas, each character exemplifies ideal virtues: Lord Ram represents the perfect son, husband, and king; Shri Lakshman ji, the devoted brother; Shri Sita ji, the ideal wife and daughter-in-law; Shri Bharat ji, the loyal devotee; and Shri Hanuman ji, the devoted servant. Even Ravan, as the perfect adversary, fulfills his role with determination until he ultimately recognizes Ram’s divinity. This narration of Shri Ram’s life is particularly relevant today, reminding us of the importance of responsibility and integrity in our actions.
